How to tactfully
handle baby name suggestions

Tactfully-handle-names-v2When it comes to being pregnant be prepared for comments, advice and general obvious analysis of everything from your bump to your cravings. One other thing to be aware of is baby name suggestions, this may or may not happen but it is good to be prepared just in case.

From experience baby name suggestions can come from anyone, a friend, a random person in a shop, to a neighbour. Whether you like their suggestions or not we suggest the following advice so that you can handle the most awkward of encounters.

Be patient

This may be obvious but it is easier said than done, one thing to remember is a lot of people like babies whether they are old, young or middle aged. Everyone loves to talk to about babies, bumps and children therefore when someone offers you advice or a name suggestion don’t take it personally. Be calm, be patient and if you do like their suggestions write them down.

Keep an open mind

You may have some names in mind before your little one arrives and the last thing you want to do is take in to consideration someone else’s opinion. However keeping an open mind has never been more important, you never know when someone may suggest a name that may even be better than the one you have chosen or it could be a strong back up name. From experience having at least two to three back up names per sex is important and never did anyone any harm. Keep an open mind so that you have a pool of names to choose from.

Smile and nod

Sometimes it is as simple as smiling and nodding, you have chosen your preferred names and you may not be looking for alternatives. However you don’t have to always offer a counter opinion to someones suggestion. You can simply smile and nod and know that your little one will be arriving soon and they will have a superstar name to go with his or hers cute personality!
